Freeway – Listen | Produced By Jake One | Artwork by FTB

“Corporate America pardon the beard”

Freeway is super talented, lyrical and confident in his music but very humble and genuine in person. He’s has become a friend of mine and I get amped to hear new music, especially over Jake. Heard this joint a couple of weeks ago — Jake One beat is bananas, Free goes ape and me on the art– FRANKMATIC!

Glad I could be a part of this. Shouts to Free, Amir and Jake.

Karmaloop TV | 360 with Wale

Peep this new interview series I’m directing for Karmaloop TV with our first guest Wale.

Join us as we catch up with Wale on the eve of his Maybach Music debut as we talk about his new label, the competitiveness of his new team, Kid Cudi reconciliation and what 600 Benz really means.

Ralph Folarin

Wale introduced himself to the masses at an interesting time in Hip-Hop. While using the web wasn’t a new way for artists to break music, they were beginning to leverage online popularity and turning it into major label opportunities.

Wale joined Drizzy and Cudder on the trip from the farm league minors to the big show. Drake joined Lil Wayne’s Young Money collective while Cudi linked with Kanye’s Good Music team — both affiliations proved to be the fuel needed to kick both careers into high gear.

Mr. Folarin did it on his own and for the most part, on his own terms.

If phase one was internet assisted independence and phase two was signing on the dotted line, then phase three is joining the juggernaut movement that is Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. Different platform but the same message delivered with invigorated enthusiasm.

As unlikely as it may have seemed at the time, Wale’s new partnership has proven to be as fruitful as it is exciting. ‘Play Your Part’, ‘Pandemonium’, ‘600 Benz’ and ‘By Any Means’ make it clear that Wale and friends, Meek Mill, Pill and of course Rozay, are on a quest to own the summer.

Maybach Music’s ‘Self Made’ due May 23rd

Wale invited me down to a studio session while in Boston where I interviewed him and Black Cobain for Karmaloop TV. Interview coming soon.

STS x FTB

STS is exactly what you’d expect from a rapper who’s moniker is an acronym for Sugar Tongue Slim– a slick talking thorough bred that can yap (& rap) his way onto your “favorite rapper list”.

Slim introduced himself on his debut mixtape Demand for More and it’s sequel Demand 2, before becoming a shooting guard for the all-star team that is the Money Making Jam Boys. Anyone that can shine standing next to Illadelph’s own Black Thought, arguably one the best emcees to ever string syllables together, is someone worth listening to. If you don’t believe me you should download the MMJB’s 10.Deep sponsored opus The Prestige.

Your welcome.

Interviewed Slim on a visit to Karmaloop TV.

Stay tuned.

Soul Assassins Radio

Soulllllll….

While in Los Angeles we made a pit stop at the homie Dj Muggs studio for a taping of Soul Assassins radio on Shade 45. Ern Dog & Mr. Choc of the Beat Junkies interviewed the kid about what I got going on these days. Dj muggs went in on an early Cypress Hill set which was sparked by a convo we had about the scene in the movie Juice when ‘Kill a Man’ hit.

Amazing.

A few years back Muggs, Chace Infinite and Ern Dogg asked The Weekly Drop to do a segment every week on Souls Assassins Radio. It was a great opportunity to be on major platform and a dream for a fan of the SA movement.

Shouts to the homies Muggs and Ern for the continued hospitality

S/O to my homie Billy / OHWRD for manning the camera on the last few posts.

The gift of all gifts.

Its feels good to get respect from the people that not only defined the industry we work in but continue to innovate as the years move forward. Also a great feeling of getting their support on your new journey.

After Vegas, I made a pit stop in Los Angeles to catch some meetings. During my visit I was surprised with a special gift from Eddie Cruz of Undefeated / Supreme LA. Undefeated has created a collection of retooled Puma Clydes that will be released soon and produced a super premium gift version for friends and family. I was lucky enough to be on that list!

This was a great moment– Building with Paul Middlemen of Stussy, James Bond & Eddie.

Thanks for the love!

Mixtape info:

Frank The Butcher & Statik Selektah have joined forces on “Concepts: Selektions”. This mixtape is inspired by seminal classic 90′s mixtapes like DJ Doo Wop’s “Live 95″ & Tony Touch’s “50 MCs”. Frank The Butcher worked with Statik on “selecting” some of his most classic beats and revisiting them with new emcees and new lyrics. The tape features veterans like DJ Doo Wop, Dj Clark Kent, Freeway, and Consequence– underground favorites like Detroit’s Black Milk and La Coka Nostra’s Ill Bill– while also featuring lyricists like Curt@!n$, Willie The Kid, Termanology, Maffew Ragazino Sr., Ro Spit — and more– all featured over Statik Selektah production.
